RESEARCH TOPICS
1 Evaluation of endogenous and exogenous cannabinoids and green tea poliphenols as modulators of immuno-allergic responses
2 Validation of new therapeutic protocols for the therapy of drug addiction
3 Study of brain metabolism (FDG-PET) of drug addicts and its correlations with clinical and psychopathological features (craving)
4 Modulation of the cellular response of the inflammatory cells by carbon monoxide and nitric oxide
5 Role of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipooxygenase (LOX) in the regulation of angiogenesis and tumor growth and myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion
6 Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory effects of low-molecular weight bioheparins

SERVICES
1 ASSISTANCE ACTIVITIES
The Toxicology Unit is a joint structure between the University of Florence and the Careggi General Hospital. The Unit consists in two sections: a) an In-Patient Service, 24hrs/day, and b) an Out-Patient Service. The assistance is directed towards diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic non-professional intoxications
2 A Poisoning Control Center is active 24hrs/day, and a Perinatal Toxicological Advisory Service operates three times a week
